Pet Awareness Classes
The Pet Awareness Classes are a series of classes to educate the public on responsible pet ownership, pet/animal safety, bite prevention, service dog etiquette, and animal cruelty prevention.
Since starting in March 2015, 2,663 students and adults have enjoyed a PAC program! These include preschools, school classrooms, Boy and Girl Scouts and 4-H groups. Adults have participated in the programs either asteachers, troop leaders or as part of the adult obedience class.
The first level, PAC Pup Club, is focused toward preschool – second graders. The class teaches the basics of responsible pet ownership and dog bite prevention. The PAC Pup Club participants receive a coloring book for successfully completing the class.
The second level, PAC Member Club, is geared for students in grades 3-8. Besides the basics covered in the lower level, this program adds dog body language to help people prevent dog bites, service dog etiquette, and pet ownership topics. This age group receives a booklet to reinforce the materials.
In the third level, PAC Leader 1, those in high school through adults learn more refined elements involved in animal ownership and in dog bite prevention. Dog bite reporting information, insurance facts, and recognition of dog stressors are among the topics included in this level’s presentation. This program includes a note-taking brochure, so the information will be available when needed. Participants of all levels receive a PAC logo key chain.
Participating students/groups are encouraged to donate items from the AWL Wish List, our Amazon Wish List or offer a monetary donation to help support the animals at AWL and the PAC education program. If your school or group (4-H, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts etc.) would like to participate in the PAC classes here at AWL, or if you would like to volunteer to assist teaching the PAC classes, please contact Mrs. France, Education Coordinator, at (330) 539-5300 or by email at email@example.com.
